New evolution of the RIP 9 RDO, Niner's flagship for Trail-Enduro, now featured with 140mm suspension, progressive and adjustable geometry, increased frame stiffnessǪ and that is It is available in two wheel sizes. And, after betting like nobody else on the 29ΓÇ ¥, we accepted the challenge of offering a bike with 27.5ΓÇ ¥ wheels for those who like the characteristics of this bike but prefer the sensations of the intermediate wheels.
Things you should know
- Shock absorber with 140 mm of travel with CVA system, and 150 mm forkΓÇ¿
- Available in versions 29ΓÇ ¥ and 27.5ΓÇ ¥ .ΓÇ¿
- Longer, lower and with the lowest pitch than any other Niner.
- Adjustable geometry by reversing one piece of the connecting rods: ΓÇ £ flip chipΓÇ ¥.
ΓÇ¿- Wider and stronger front tri├ngle, to promote driving precision.
- More compact and shorter rear triangle. Tubes are also flared for greater rigidity
.ΓÇ¿- Enduro Max Black Oxide bearings, more durable, on the suspension pivots.
- Compatible with tires up to 2.6 inches.
- Improved suspension progression curve, with greater sensitivity in the initial section and greater support midway.
- Completely internal wiring, with start-to-end guidance, and frame protectors installed as standard.
- The frame is compatible with Fox Live-valve.
- The frame is specific for single chainring transmissions.
- You can mount a bottle cage in its usual position.
- The bottom bracket is 73 mm threaded.
Two options: 29ΓÇ ¥ or 27.5ΓÇ ¥
For those of you who know the history of Niner, and our firm commitment to 29 Ç ¥ bikes (hence the brand name), the inclusion of a 27.5 Ç ¥ model is sure to have you. Surprised. But there is a compelling reason: over the years, some users have told us that they love the stable but flexible, consistent and controlled behavior of our CVA suspension, that they love the brand. , the designs, but they enjoy more with bikes controlled by 27.5ΓÇ ¥ wheels. And we have accepted the challenge. But this is not a 29ΓÇ ¥ that also accepts 27.5-inch wheels, rather they have built two specific frames for each wheel size.
┐Two geometries in one? ΓÇ¿
It is longer, shorter and more stable. But more than that, the new RIP 9 RDO is the first Niner to have a system that allows you to vary the geometry by changing the position of a part on the connecting rods. In high mode, the bike has a 66 ║ head angle and almost 76 ║ (75.8) of seat tube, resulting in a geometry that is perfect for riding. ón on trails both uphill and downhill. By varying these points (65 ¬ of direction and 75.2 ║ of saddle), we will find a more aggressive RIP and willing to get on a chairlift and then launch at full speed through the descents more├ They are long and dizzying.
Geometry details
- Geometry adjustable through flip chip on the rocker
- Steering angle: 66 degrees (high mode), 65 degrees (low mode)
- Seat tube angles: 75.8 degrees (high mode), 75.2 degrees (low mode) at 29ΓÇ ¥.
- Longer top tube
- Seat tube shortened by 20 mm to be able to install telescopic seatposts with 170 mm of travel.
- The bottom bracket drops 20 mm in all sizesΓÇ¿
- Shorter head tube to adapt to different types of handlebars
- Shorter pods, 435 mm, at 29ΓÇ ¥ (430 mm at 27.5ΓÇ ¥).
Less travel, much more bike
With the new frame design, flattening the top and bottom tubes, widening the main pivot point and reinforcing the rear triangle, the entire bike is stiffer front to back. Struts reduce flex of the bottom bracket while keeping the top of the front triangle flexible but stable. And the wide, flat surfaces at the top and bottom of the RIP tube help absorb frontal impacts and vibrations while resisting twisting under side loads.
Also, thanks to the increased volume of the swingarm, we removed the rear linkage of the two connecting rods and gained space to mount wider wheels and tires.
What about the tour? 140mm are ideal. Combined with revised and adjustable geometry, this RIP 9 is stable at high speeds, safe off-road, and accurate in line picking on technical "oh shit" runs. .
In addition, the pedaling efficiency of the RIP 9 RDO V3 ΓÇïΓÇï increases with the reduction of suspension travel and the new, improved suspension progression curve, with greater sensitivity in the suspension. initial section and greater support midway.
Consistency, confidence and control - that's CVA
What does not change is the suspension system, maintaining confidence in the successful and patented CVA system. Let us remember that it is a virtual pivot system with two connecting rods that work in opposite directions to ensure that its behavior is good both when descending and pedaling. However, the progressivity has been varied, slightly higher. Starting around 3.0 and ending around 2.3 for an average of 2.55, the new ratio makes it easier to set the start of motion and overcome the shock's static friction.
Mid-travel, as the leverage ratio decreases and nears optimum, less force is transmitted from the rear wheel to the shock. Therefore, the shock absorber keeps the rider stable. And in the final stretch, the leverage ratio increases only slightly to overcome the natural progressiveness of the air springs and give a smooth response without unexpected bumps on the biggest jumps.
Suspension details
- Niner's proprietary CVA link design and axle path remain the same.
- Stable but flexible, consistent and controlled CVA suspension behavior.
- The lower link under the bottom bracket allows for shorter chainstays.
- Improved progressivity ratio curve.
- More sensitive at the beginning of the route and more support in the middle section.
- More progressivity towards the end of the route.
- New 2-piece connecting rod.
- Shorter rear shock absorber, metric size 210x55.
- FOX shock tuning includes four air volume reducers.
ΓÇ¿- Geometry designed for 44mm offset forks on the 29ΓÇ ¥ model, and 37mm offset on the 27.5ΓÇ ¥.
