WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Yellow tire tape Stan is designed to run on tubeless-ready tires and wheels. If you are inflating your tires to 45 psi or less, a layer of yellow tape on the base of your tire is all you need for most tires. For tubeless and similar road tires that require more than 45 psi of pressure, a double wrap of tape is required. WHAT IF I HAVE AN OLDER TIRE? The BST (Bead Socket Technology) profile developed by Stan's NoTubes was a departure of traditional bicycle tire design, and its core concept is the basis for the vast majority of tubeless-ready tires and wheels on the market today. Stan's yellow rim tape is not, in and of itself, a tubeless conversion for older, traditional tires that are not tubeless ready. These older rims require the use of a Stan's NoTubes rim strip (now discontinued) to reshape the tire bed for a safe and secure tubeless setup. While we recommend considering a new set of tubeless-ready wheels instead of a rim tape conversion, Stan's rim kits and strips may still be available at your local bike shop and can be used to convert. older bikes with older tires that are not tubeless ready. . Using only yellow tire tape and Stan's NoTubes sealant on a tire that is not tubeless ready can result not only in difficult inflation during setup, but also in catastrophic "burping" problems while riding.
