The Unior hand tool program produces more than 10 million sheet metal tools and housings annually. It is the successor to the rich blacksmithing tradition of the Pohorje region and northeastern Slovenia. In the 19th century, several manufacturing forges emerged in the Pohorje region. These were used for the production of agricultural and craft tools. Their work was associated with four forges in this area. The first forged tool factory was established at the beginning of the 20th century, in 1919. Engineers Mirko Bremec and Walter Mach founded the Styria Industrial Steel Company in Zreče, where Unior still maintains its facilities today. The company was then a modern factory and produced forged tools for agriculture, mining, and crafts. The forging plant was transformed into a mechanized foundry. The foundry was renovated after World War II. In 1947, after the restoration and completion of the building, the forge was renamed the Zreče Forged Tool Factory.
