Connecting rods

The cranks are the levers that connect the pedals to the bicycle's drivetrain. Typically, every bicycle has two cranks, one on each side of the frame. Their main function is to transfer the force you apply to the pedal to the chainring, which in turn connects to the chain and, ultimately, to the rear wheel. This means that the cranks are responsible for converting your energy into movement, allowing you to move forward with each pedal stroke.

The crankset is the power transmission element from the pedals to the chainrings. The two cranks, one on each side of the frame mounted at 180 degrees to each other, are connected to the bottom bracket and the pedals. There are different types of cranks to suit different bottom bracket types. Their main function is to transfer the force you apply to the pedal to the chainring, which in turn is connected to the chain and, ultimately, to the rear wheel. This means that the crankset is responsible for converting your energy into movement, allowing you to move forward with each pedal stroke.

Bicycle cranksets can vary in length to suit different sized riders and different types of riding. Crankset length is measured from the center of the pedal axle to the center of the bottom bracket axle. Larger bicycle component manufacturers typically offer crank lengths for adult riders ranging from 165 mm to 180 mm in 2.5 mm increments, with 170 mm cranks being the most common size.
